Master Cleanse - Post Mortem

So.. I was on the Master Cleanse for 25 days.. And here is a review of my experience.

Honestly, it worked.

Yup, it does actually work!

However, it is not a long term process, but rather just detoxing the body from what it is normally used to in my moderately active yet quite sedentary at times student life. As a student, we don't really have the time and money to prepare healthy food, especially when living conditions are not really optimal.

Short term wise, this master cleanse is really good. Initially of course, especially the first 3 days, it was torture. Okay not really torture but, I do have quite a bull like force when I want to prove something so, maybe for some it will be horrendous. Especially smelling food. ANY food suddenly seems like the most amazing meal in the world!!!

Funny thing though, because of those few days when my stomach rumbled and my mind was swirling with ecstatic thoughts of the specific food I was smelling, I took a minute to "be" in that situation and I tried to analyze it. I found that, normally, I wouldn't even go near that particular food, but now that my body 'thinks' it is starving, I couldn't be bothered what it was, I just wanted it!

There was a huge difference between wanting and needing. I knew, I didn't actually need food, because I had about 2 inches around my waist that was enough for a whole month with no food.. XD

It was actually a breakthrough for me, I learned to be disciplined and to train my body to listen to what I was telling it rather than let my body control me. Mind over matter... More of, fact over crave. Haha..

There was an event, a friend's birthday, and we went for Italian food. None of my friends knew what to order, as this was their first visit, so I had to order the food. Now it may seem now like such a menial task, but when you've been without taste (won't say food, cause for me taste was more of the battle for me) for about 10 days, with one of your most loved foods just inches away, you fear 2 things, you might just give in, or you might just die trying. XD

So I ordered all their favorites, and the food smelled and looked so delicious.

Im proud to say, I didn't touch one morsel. Nope. I had a glass of water and sat there just conversing with my friends as they chowed their way into the gastronomical feast I ordered.  Haha.

Not to brag or anything, but it shows that this cleanse, actually trained me to say no, even under such convincing situations. I stood my ground, reined my appetite and stomach juices, control. Yup. I learnt restraint and control.

So, in short, yes, I did lose weight. It was actually quite a good experience especially if you want to learn how to control, but if it is used solely for weight loss, in the long term it doesn't work..

But hey, if you have an event in a month and you wanna fit into that old dress/new dress and amaze a few relatives, sure, try it. But after that, when you slowly get back into the normal, try to avoid fatty foods, otherwise all the weight will come back on. Combine it with a low fat diet, for example 3 days Master cleanse, 4 days of food. Include a cardio and any other exercise.. This way, the body keeps trying to adjust and burs more calories just by adjusting to you. XD I'm trying this out now really, if there's anything, I'll be sure to blog about it. I'm in Day 4 now, so it's too early to tell.

Day 1 - Fast and exercise
Day 2 - Light low fat meal (One meal)
Day 3 - Fast and rest
Day 4 - Fast and exercise

Ingredients.. Where you can get them...

So, About the master of all cleanses..

I'm gonna do a step-by step post in the next one, but in this one I'm going to just talk about where to get these ingredients..

Seeing that I'm currently living in Malaysia, and some of the ingredients (especially to the average and typical Malaysian) may sound a little strange and you may not know where to get them..

No WORRIES!

I have found all the ingredients and no, it wasn't posted to me.. Actually went shop-hunting for them.. Surprisingly, (no actually, not really, Malaysia has been pretty good with the imported stuff lately.. seriously!)

I found them all! Well, except the lax-tea... (I'll explain later)

I bought my Maple Syrup, lemons and Cayenne Pepper from the Cold Storage branch at The Curve..

Pretty easy to find.
But, just in case, here's a guide to help you look for the stuff :)

Okay, first, grab a basket, you don't really need a cart but.. if you want, I'm not stopping ya!

Now, head to the fruits and vege arena.. Look for the yellow fruits called LEMONs (usually near oranges, grapefruits.. )

Now, I know they are sold as a bag of lemons and some go by pick your own.. I would honestly just grab a bag, xamine for weird stuff and if it's clear, I'll get them,, It's usually cos they're more uniform in size and easier to handle.. ! :) A neeted bag of lemons usually come in 6 and cost about 4-7 Ringgit, depending on season and where they're from.. So just use your instincts..

But if you do choose to pick-your-own, (not really much difference in prices but sometimes... a few cents do add up to a lot) remember to bring your own bag! (GO GREEN!!!)

Okay, next, head to (this one s a lil trickier) the baking/ sweet/breakfast aisle.. Different places 'hide' them in different places but usually if you look for pancake mixes, the maple syrup should be right beside or opposite them.. :)

Look for MAPLE SYRUP, and not MAPLE-flavoured SYRUP. HUGE difference..

The cheaper one is maple-flavoured syrup.. Don't let your kiamsap-syndrome take over.. This is important cos they are NOT the same thing..

Pure MAple Syrup, is always imported.. There are no maple trees in Malaysia. Sad, but true.
So you can't get a 'cheaper' local brand..

I know, many Malaysians will be like "WAH!! So expensive! Mahal gila! Ala, just take the cheapest one la... (takes the one priced less than RM10)

Sorry, but the average price of maple syrup (300-500mL) in Msia is RM22 and up. Mostly RM30-40.. depending on how much syrup..

Just use your finely tuned shopping sense, get the most reasonable one la.. Mine cost like RM 30 for Grade B pure organic maple syrup..

Next go to the spices aisle..

In Malaysia, spices are 'split' into two..
One, are all the local spices.. with the Chinese herbs, nasi goreng Maggi packet etc..
Look for the rack with all the nice looking bottles from the same company (usually all in one colour eg: green) and you'll find Cayenne Pepper amongst them.. (The price is about RM12-14 per bottle of spice)

Youre' almost done.. If you don't have measuring spoons at home, just go get a set from the household/baking ware aisle..(RM 2-5 only)
Okay, now for the salt. You should get UN-IONIZED SEA SALT. Celtic sea salt is the safest to get, since we don't have many choices in our supermarts (unless you go to an organic shop)

So just get a pack of the Celtic Sea Salt.. Fine or Course is fine.. You'll be using it for the salt-water flush.. (Price is about Rm11 to 16)

Okay you're pretty much done!

Go to the counter, and bayar* (pay) !

DONE.

Oh wait. Yeah, the lax-tea.. So far I have yet to find a laxative tea that isn't screaming SLIM SLIM SLIM.. =.=

But stick to Senna, a natural laxative.. I got Senokot tablets from a pharmacy..(most carry them) (Around RM 11 a box)

De-TOX Re-Cleanse = ???

Okay. So, I've been looking (scouring) the internet for any liquid diets that actually, well work.

And I found one! MAde popular by (one of my FAVORITE actress.. Beyonce!

She went on a diet/detox programme called the MASTER CLEANSE.

Sounds a little eerie and.. *cue visual and sound effects: choir singing, single light source.. etc* I was a little skeptical at first, but after going through the steps, and how it works, I have a feeling this one just might work!

I'm going to try it out.. But first. Let's go through the ingredients, shall we..?

You will need :

Lemons

Maple Syrup (Grade B)

Cayenne Pepper

Filtered Water

NON-Iodized Sea Salt

Senna-based Laxative Tea

NOTE: I am not endorsing any brands or whatever, the pictures are only for understanding purposes only, thank you!

These are the ingredients.. Want the amounts? Next post!!

PS : Did I mention, it's a 10-day detox programme, but some have done it for 40 days.. Miss B Knowles did it for 14 days with AMAZING results.. More on that next time..

And so...

Haha. Yeah. I'm not your average... person,friend,pushover,foodie,etc...

In short, I'm (I'm guessing all of us like to think so too) not your average whatever. Jyeah.

Anyway, Welcome to my blog !

In this blog, I'm just gonna post up lots of random, maybe not too random, but stuff I'm currently doing..

Ranges from fads, music, foods, routines, thoughts whatever.

So. Hope you don't get bored, cos seriously, boredom is an option. Or IS IT?

Stop, don't yawn just yet.. Come back next time and you'll see, this ain't your average blog. :D

Let me apologize ahead of time, most of the time I'm no expert, I just read and 'test' and just.. try whatever haha.

Enjoy this weird, hopefully entertaining and informative(hah!) blog..

TOODLES! For now.. la.
